MSE Error Code: 0x80073b01/Issues with Malware, MSE, and Webroot
I just had a clean install done on my laptop. Someone downloaded something onto it, I can't find it, and the anti-virus I am using, Webroot, detected 4 different malware infections. I tried to clean the files with Webroot, and it could only get rid of 3, so I tried Malwarebytes Pro, but it did not locate the file. The last security program I attempt to run is MSE, but when I tried to open it it said it was corrupted. I tried to uninstall, but I was given the message that I did not have permission to perform the action. Since I just had a clean install I decided to try a system restore. I first tried the farthest restore point listed, but it and the following one would not perform the action for some reason. My third attempt, restoring around the same time I was infected, was successful, and Webroot was still saying I was infected until I ran a system scan when magically the malware was gone/not detected.
So, here are my issues: since Webroot couldn't find what it had found in the past, does that mean I'm clean? Secondly, how do I uninstall MSE, so I can reinstall? Thirdly, Webroot is very sensitive and won't let me open compressed files, even though they come from a trusted source. Even though it states that 50 infections have been cleaned/cleared do you think that I could get rid of it and find something as good/better, or should I keep it and figure out how to manually adjust the filters (I don't want to do that). If you have any security software that you feel is better please let me know. There is a ton, but I don't want anything too bulky or doesn't work. Thank you for reading, and I appreciate your assistance.
