Cant delete potentially infected folder
Hi all
On my W7 64-bit machine, I have a folder I can not delete. It's in my PFiles x86 dir. A while ago, I installed Google Earth. I think I had done a system restore at some point to before that install, and was left with the google folder. That appears to now be the issue.
Inside the Gogole folder, there is a folder called Desktop. Inside there, there are several subfolders, the last one has no name. If I try to delete the Google folder, Windows explorer refreshes itself, I get spit back to the Win desktop, and the folder remains. I can rename it, I just cant delete it. The problem appears to be that unnamed folder; if i try and delete that, I get the windows refresh. if I try and rename it, I get an error message saying I cant. If I try and take control of it with permissions, and allow access, I get an error.
I have done an sfc scnanow - no issues found.
I have done a scan with malewarebytes - it did find a couple of rootkits in that Google subfolder, and I told mbytes to delete of course. It seemingly did, b/c a second scan finds nothing.
I took the HD out of my computer and hooked it up to another computer with a HD enclosure, but I still cant delete that folder I still get the windows refresh thing - even if I put that computer into safe mode.
I have done a virus scan and I watched as the scan was taking place - it seemingly skipped right over that folder. Unless it flashed the name so fast that I didnt see it.
Hoping someone can help me here - I have no idea what to try next.
Thanks much in advance.
