"I'm dead" pop-up followed by Windows Update

Hi there - I hope this is the right place to post this, sorry if it's not!

My mom was just using her laptop when a smiley face with x's for eyes popped up and said, "I'm dead" and then immediately the computer said it was doing a windows update and shut down and back on again.

I did a couple Google searches and I don't see anything about the graphic/update, but I would love it if anybody else knows anything about this... I didn't personally see, it but I was in the other room when it happened and sounds like it looked like one of those computer crashes you see in movies lol.

I checked it out, and it clearly wasn't a Windows Update... After the update, everything was still open including the internet tabs. (Mom was in Etsy at the time of the pop up)

I'm running a scan right now, only things coming up so far are some tracking cookies.

A "non-existent" Windows update ("KB3024777") even Google can't find
I'm not sure what this is in Windows Update , but how is it possible to have no results in Google on this KB that's in Windows Update? I also clicked on the "more information" for the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but nothing came up there either.
