    If you still want to format the hard drive, etc., the forum indicated is your best resource.

    As an alternative, you can also consider a doing a System Image.

    There may be other options...

    You may want to get rid of McAfee & get another AV. McAfee is notorious for causing many PC problems. There are other options available to you, free or paid. Have a look here:

    the ESET ServiceRepair tool... Does someone know what it does? Does is repair missing registry entries, or with wrong value only? Or does it reset the correct permissions on those as well?

    Does it do that for all MICROSOFT services?
