Firewall will not turn on whatsoever.

    Hi Guys,
my current issue is that my Windows Firewall is obviously broken, and cannot be fixed. The thing is that I once got a notification that Firewall was off and I went into Firewall to find the page saying "Update your Firewall Settings", and a button that says "Use Recommended Settings", whenever I click this button, the busy pointer comes up and the page refreshes only to show the same dialogue; in fact all pages in the Firewall section show the same thing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I see you have the free version of Avira as your Anti-virus.

Please download DDS from one of these links:
    DDS.com
    DDS.pif
    • Disable any script blocking protection
    • Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
    • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
      1. DDS.txt
      2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
    • Save both reports to your desktop.

Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.

Let's see if the following will show the cause...

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner
    Save to the Desktop
    • Make sure the following options are checked:
      • Internet Services
      • Windows Firewall
      • System Restore
      • Security Center
      • Windows Update
      • Windows Defender
    • Press: Scan
    • FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.
Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Why is FSS running from this location?!!
    FSS.txt:
    Running from "C:\Users\Gellert\Documents\Music"

It should be running from your desktop.

You have two anti-virus programs running... Avira free and Microsoft Security Essentials.
Please uninstall one of them. Anti-virus programs are resource hogs and will fight for your system's resources as well as possibly fighting each other's virus definitions.

After you have done the above, let's flush the DNS cache and restore Microsofts Host File:

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

    @Echo on
    pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    attrib -h -s -r hosts
    echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
    attrib +r +h +s hosts
    popd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh winsock reset all
    netsh int ip reset all
    shutdown -r -t 1
    del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Double click on the flush.bat file to run it.Vista and Windows 7... right click the .bat file and choose to run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

Ah yes I forgot to save to Desktop...
On to MSE, I had trouble successfully uninstalling this fully a couple months ago, some of the files were deleted by the uninstaller until it somehow quit halfway through, taking the uninstaller from the uninstall programs menu with it, so in terms of getting rid of MSE I'm stuck

There are a few issues showing on the FSS report.

Let's see if the following tool can take care of them. If not, we will need to go at it manually.

Make sure FSS is located on the Desktop!

Since the following steps involve editing the Registry, please create new Restore Point before proceeding.
    System Restore Point - Create
    Select: Option Two

Now, please download the ESET ServiceRepair tool:
    http://kb.eset.com/library/ESET/KB%2...icesRepair.exe
    (Direct link only available)
    Save to the Desktop.
Double-click to run the downloaded file.

When the program runs, a prompt appears asking if you want to proceed.
    Click: Yes
When the Services routine is Completed, you are asked to Reboot.
Click Yes to allow the reboot.

When done, the tool creates a folder named SvcRepair.log on the Desktop.
Please provide the SvcRepair.log in your reply.

Next, please run the Farbar Service Scanner once again, and provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Try Revo Uninstaller Pro and doing a Forced Uninstall on MSE (youll see the Forced Uninstall icon when you launch the program after install) Just locate the file/folder where MSE is and it will try to uninstall it and when that does it will ask what scan you want to do for leftover files , do advanced and see if it finds anything and if so delete those files
