Norton Internet Security - IPv6 and homegroups

Just a warning to you folks out there that Norton Internet Security 2010 will break your connection to your homegroups. Seems it does something to the IPv6 protocol. I tried it on 2 machines running Ultimate 7 and spent hours on the phone with MS technical support. The only way to fix this problem is to uninstall NIS2010. There may also be a registry hack necessary to fix the problem after NIS is uninstalled. BEWARE

Different hardware, different setups, different results.

I spent 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft yesterday. After they got the problem fixed (by uninstalling NIS and doing a reg hack), I installed NIS on a second computer today. I had to get Norton tech support to take control of my machine and try to fix it. They did not attempt to do anything with that IPv6 control. They said the problem was solved after they added my computer's IP addy to the firewall exceptions. They released my machine and I rebooted. The problem was back. It was only after I uninstalled NIS completely did I have functionality with my homegroups again.

We have 7 machines on our home network, plus network printers, DVRs with IP addresses, etc. Windows 7 is running on 3 of them and all have NIS2010. No problem with homegroups.

It's odd that I would have the same problem with 2 different machines and nobody else is having these troubles. What else could be causing the troubles then if after uninstalling NIS the problem dissapears?

MY BAD!

Seems I jumped the gun when I tried to helpfully warn people about NIS and Homegroups. I just thought it was too much of a coincidence that the problem could be replicated on not 1, but 3 computers. After people here started posting that they didn't have troubles, I tried installing it again on my main computer. Homegroups are still working. Hmm. Odd. Call it a senile moment.

Sorry 'bout the misleading information folks.

It's good that it 'breaks' your networking...shows that it works. But good to hear it's all sorted.

Norton Internet Security
Hi, I was just wanting to see if anyone has had any problems with Norton and Windows 7. I recently installed build 7100 on my mother's machine and she insisted that Norton was installed. I eventually relented and installed it, but it only seems to cause problems... Anyone else??
