    I highly recommend this.
I have both of my computer using the Professional version but they do have a trial version to see if you like it.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Every thing I have seen lets me think it works well with Avast. Both active at the same time.

Their are some more programs I use also.
Super Anti Spyware on demand (free)
Eset free online scan about once a month or when I think it is necessary.
AdwCleaner when I think something is messing with my browsers.

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

ESET Free Online Scanner :: Complete Malware Detection :: ESET

    AdwCleaner Download

Their are many more but I believe they should be use under guidance from are experts in the Forms Security section. With any of my mentioned programs when in doubt ask for help.

Prevention is fine but there's nothing like having system snapshots on an external drive or 2 to give you peace of mind. Nowadays the free ones have so many features unless you have a special requirement I don't see the need to get the paid versions.

A couple of good free imaging programs are EaseUS ToDo Backup Free
and Macrium Reflect Free. You can find more on

My OPINION is AVG. I'm just too used to their style of software that I don't want to switch to anything else unless it is required.

I just relied on restore points and scans until a BHO hosed my system so it would not boot. After installing Windows again I looked into system imaging software. It bailed me out several times. But they call 'em "personal computers" for a reason. Good luck with it. :)
