Here's one other you could try. I must admit your problem is proving tougher than anticipated ...... must have been a particularly nasty bug you caught !

    Complete Internet Repair from Petrichorsoft
Tried to download 2 versions of this on the backup computer I'm using for all this temporary mayhem, and neither version would download.

When you click to download, the "save or run" options shows the file name as having a ? at the beginning, then the download hangs up.

So if all else fails, I'll have to give it another try perhaps via the laptop.

That's an older link, I guess its been taken down. Again, my apologies for not being more help. I'm thinking more and more a repair or fresh install may be more time efficient, but as stated earlier, I'm deferring to Kaktusoft/Golden/others more well versed in networking/internet problems than I am. (Laid awake most of the night thinking/wondering if there was something I forgot to suggest)

@indianacarnie: We don't even know yet what the problem is! He is connected to internet as seen in FARBAR log. Even name resolution works, so google.com translates to the correct ip address. And that address is reachable so no routing problem as well.

OP is no computer professional and has problems with troubleshooting. Only thing we know by now.... http stuff isn't working by name and by tcp/ip adress.

But is ftp working???? Without knowing all symptoms I can't post a conclusion
