    Very stubborn MSE.

We still have options, so, hang in there.

Just use the following for the fixlist.txt:

    Code:

    start
    DeleteJunctionsInDirectory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client
    end
Next, please start the computer in plain Safe Mode, and run FRST and the new fixlist from SM.

    Use Option 1:
    Safe Mode

When done, do reboot if the computer does not do it on its own.

    Bill48,

    That last Fixlog.txt looks encouraging.

The resistance to delete the reparse point might be related to reinstalling MSE, as farbar (developer) believes.
That is when the new error initiated.

Let's se if we can get the following to launch a wizard to uninstall the Microsoft Security Client:

Please open a Command Prompt by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click the Command Prompt and select: Run as Administrator

At the blinking cursor of the Command Prompt, copy/paste the following (using the mouse) and press: Enter

    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\Setup.exe" /x
When done, please reboot, and let us know if the error message returns.

Looks as if there are some files gone astray.

Please right-click Start, and select: Open Windows Explorer

    Navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client

Right-click the folder, and select: Rename
Rename it to:Old Microsoft Security Client

    Try installing MSE once again.

Do you mean without first uninstalling? Tried downloading but it recognised that MSE already exists. Sorry if this is a dumb question

    Lost my brain!

Do uninstall it first, and see if there are any problems doing that.

Aha. Message: Please wait until the current program is finished or being changed. OK.

    So it won't uninstall.

See if the following works, but, do not go to Method 2 yet.
