    Help with firewall

I just build a computer and I want to install a program, but firewall don't allow it to connect to internet. I already tried in control panel, windows firewall, allow a program through firewall and still doesn't connect to the internet. I also tried control panel, windows firewall, advanced settings, inbound rules, but doesn't fix my problem either. I have this program downloadHQ running in my old computer with no problem in windows XP. by the way I tried to make it work compatible with windows 7 in start, troubleshooting, programs, program compatibility. That didn't work either. Can someone help me please

Hi tkche, welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds to me like your antivirus program "McAfee", is controlling your Firewall.
This is normal as most antivirus programs do this.

To allow a program through your Firewall, follow these steps:

    1. Open McAfee Antivirus
    2. Click on the option "Web and Email Protection", then click on "Firewall"
    3. Click on the "Internet Connections for Programs" (also called "Program Permissions") Drawer
    4. Scroll down until you find the program you want to allow through your Firewall
    5. Select it, then click "Open"
    6. Click from the "Access" drop-down menu, then select either "Full/Allow"
    7. Finally click "Save", then restart your computer

If your program is not listed, follow these steps:

    1. Do steps 1-3 mentioned above this list (skip this step if you have already done this)
    2. Scroll to the bottom of the list, then click on "Add"
    3. Click "Browse" to locate the program you want to add
    4. Then do steps 4-7 mentioned above this list

I hope this answers your question :).

Thanks for your help ellellell1, but I knew McAfee will cause some problem with some programs, so when I install McAfee I installed it in custom mode, so I didn't install the firewall of McAfee. I checked the web for any solution and I just got to the point or format my hard drive and install all my programs again, but this time I will turn off the firewall of windows 7 from the moment of installation and install McAfee with firewall. can any one tell me, is this is the only option I have? or it will be just waste of time.

Have you tried running your program in safe mode?
(Press F8 at startup and choose safe mode with networking)

Is it just one program that you are having trouble with or several programs?

I tried the "safe mode" like you suggest ellellell1, but didn't work. The program is downloadHQ jacee. I use this program to download movies, that's all. I've been reading a lot in the web and I have and idea. I have this program running in my old computer in windows XP. What I'm going to do is to remove the hard drive from my old computer and install it in my new computer, but at boot time I have to choose between windows XP or windows 7. I think is better than install both OS in the same hard drive. Thanks for your help any ways.

Does "HQ" stand for high quality?

Yes I agree. That would probably be the best solution to your problem.

I'm sorry I didn't get to solve your problem so it can work on Windows 7.

But someone else might have an idea of how to get downloadHQ working .

What is this program you're trying to install? Perhaps there is a offline version you can download through your web browser.
