How do I use the recommended settings for Firewall?

My firewall says that it is not using the recommended settings. When I click on Use recommended settings or restore default settings nothing happens. I don't know if the firewall is even on. If I click turn firewall on of off I get the window about the recommended settings. Under these firewall conditions, am I protected???? I tried using the Windows fixes d they did not work...

    Please help

    Welcome to the forums fille9!

Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Firewall. Use the choices at the upper left to either turn on or off - restore defaults etc.

Have you tried running a sfc/scannow? This will find and possibly fix any corrupted system files. We have many excellent tutorials here at the forums, heres one on how to do that if you haven't before. Just click on the link : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, have you ran your Anti-Virus and Malware programs?

I tried the sfc/scannow twice and it stopped working at 59%. Message was Cannot perform the requested scan. I downloaded the Up date tool, It made no difference.. Thank you for your help.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/SecurityCheck.exe or here http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
    Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

    Next,

    Download CKScanner from here http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/CKScanner.exe
Save it to your desktop. <=== IMPORTANT
Doubleclick CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify that the file is saved.
Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

Please post both checkup.txt and CKFiles.txt in your next reply.
