    Do you have a "Restore Point" prior to the infection? If so, use it to roll back the system. You can, also, visit the following link for a complete list of the steps required to remove the infection;

    Remove "This content requires Media Player 12.2 Update" pop-up | MalwareFixes

    Restore points are never a good idea to solve issues with malware. Especially not a restore itself.

    It is actually better to disable system protection while the infection is going on. Malware can use system restore points to re-infect the system at any time, even though the infection is cleaned up. Some of the more nasty malware know when they are about to be removed, and create a restore point to restore themselves when the system is rebooted.

    @longshanks

    Let's see what is going on with your system:

    Download herdprotect:

    Download herdProtect - Free Anti-Malware Platform

    Choose the portable version.

    Then run the scan, when it finishes, save the results per the screenshot below. Then upload the log here.

    DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING YET. I will advise if anything needs removed when I receive the log.

    Thank you for the log. You are quite infected. (The main infection being the media player 12.2)
    But it looks like we can take care of it all very easily.

    1.)
    Follow this guide here to remove it,

    http://malwaretips.com/blogs/this-co...pdate-removal/

    It has screen shots and walks you through removing the infection. Saves me a lot of time

    Should you have any questions however, do not hesitate and please post back here.
    I suggest removing anything these products find, but if you have questions-ask.

    2.) Once you remove the infection with the guide above, please run herd protect once more and re-upload a fresh new log. Then we can look into the other items that may possibly still be present on your machine. Most likely everything will be gone, but in case not we can tackle them together.

    3.) Do you have any anti-virus/anti-malware software installed?
