If you uninstalled McAfee LiveSafe, wouldn't you be using MSE by default - it is just called Windows Defender.

Or do I have that wrong?
He is using windows 7, unless the new pc came with windows 8.

Windows 8 windows defender is MSE. Windows 7 windows defender is only antispyware.

    Just wanted to clarify that.

    NVM: Saw it was win8

Computer I would do a clean install oem by gregrockers tutorial.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Get rid of all of the bloatware, and install avast.

I recommend panda, but all this is is just an opinion. Avast has gotten naggy, which is why I switched to panda.

IMHO, AVAST is fine. You just have to uncheck everything uneeded. And there is some preinstalled things I would like to keep.

I have uninstalled it now. Now, I have Avast and I have gone with a custom install and unchecked all the uneeded tools.
