Can I remove Avast from Registry?

Hi Everyone, my name is Fred, this is my first time and my first post on your forum. I wasn't sure if this problem should go in Security or Registry, but I didn't see a separate registry forum. I am using Avast, and for some time now I havn't been able to modify or update the program because it asks me for a password, which I don't recall specifying when I installed Avast. I always write these down, and I have no record of one. My Avast forum pass doesn't work, and the advice from Avast support was utterly incomprehensible. Avast's forum is down due to being hacked over the weekend. My question is this-since I can't uninstall Avast through the normal channels, i.e. CCleaner, Windows Control Panel, can I go in and delete the registry entries related to Avast without the password? Will this work, and will it harm anything else if I do? I really appreciate any help the members here can offer, as I don't have too much experience editing my registry. Thanks in advance

I wouldnt go near the reg if I was you, you may delete someting in there and mess up your hole system,

I would try using something like revo uninstaller. its a free uninstall tool. if you do an advanced remove it will remove all instance of it from reg aswell as anything related to it. it would prob be your best option. Then reinstall a different anti virus when your done!

what ever ya do DO NOT delete anything in the reg by yourself. that is askin for trouble!

You could try what Graemzy suggested or if you directly want to uninstall avast! you could use this utility.
    Avast Software Uninstall Utility Download

And also, never try to fiddle with your registry because a single mistake can destroy the OS.
You can either try Revo uninstaller or the link I suggested above.

    Worked like a charm!

Thanks, aritra2116! The avast! uninstaller you recommended worked perfectly. I have asked this question on a couple of other forums, and no one has ever mentioned it. I reinstalled the latest version of avast after removing the old one, as I've always been happy with it's performance. It did ask if I wanted to password protect the program, and I did, but I sure don't remember the previous version giving me the option. It wouldn't let me do anything to it without that password. Thanks again
