Windows 7 UAC Problem (OK Button not confirming actions)

    Hi,

Today I turned on my computer and it automatically restarted itself. After it restarted I instantly noticed that UAC was turned off (because I have apps on the desktop which dont start without UAC but the UAC logo on the app's icons was gone). So I quickly checked UAC and saw that the slider was all the way down and thus UAC was turned off. I tried to enable UAC again but after moving the slider up and pressing OK nothing happens and once I enter UAC again the slider is all the way down again.

I have tried the following to resolve the problem:
*Full system scan with Avast (2 threats deleted)
*Full system scan with Malwarebytes (Nothing detected)
*Start CMD with admin rights and sfc /scannow (at the end it says that all problems couldn't be detected)
*Try sfc /scannow in safe mode

I am stuck on what to try next

    Thanks

You could try this Fix it: Fix security issues to protect and secure Windows automatically

You could try more scanners for example Microsofts: Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner

If you haven't enabled "Scan for rootkits" in Malwarebytes(settings - detection and protection) you could also try that.

    Hi Tookeri,

Thanks for your reply. A quick scan with Malwarebytes found me 5 threats ! (wasn't there before). All of these are registry malware and 3 of them are located in the security centre registry and the other 2 in other windows areas of the registry. I quarantied them and restarted my computer and scanned again and I have received the same threats again (it seems that after they were deleted they somehow revived again).

Maybe this will help to solve my problem.

    Thanks

Also, the fix it program you recommended me doesn't work (it cannot download the files it needs) and this is because th windows download page is currently offline. ( downloads.microsoft.com )

In addition, should I try to delete the registry paths manually or is this risky ?

    Thanks

I never recommend deleting things from the registry unless you know exactly what you're doing.

I know Malwarebytes is not recommended to run in Safe Mode, so you could try the general recommended method by my AV:
disable System Restore, do a scan(with Malwarebytes in this case), enable System Restore
How To - Remove threats - Removal Instructions - General Removal Instructions | F-Secure
This is for preventing re-infections (which you seem to have)

    Hi,

Thanks for the help again but I am still confused how to remove the malware. Everytime malwarebytes removes it , the malware returns again on the next scan.

    Regards

That's why it's recommended to disable System Restore before trying to delete the malware, so it has no "backup" to restore from.

Great! But make sure you have System Restore turned on again (if you want it on)
