    microsoft security essentials

I just noticed- when I examine the programs list under control panel (sorted by install date)- that my microsoft security essentials was automatically re-installed on 10-september. I say automatically, since I didn't intend to, nor install this consciously...so wondering 2-questions:
    1) how to check the version of microsoft security essentials running (I can't find this anywhere under the program screen; and
    2) how to assure myself this wasn't some sort of rogue installation of a "dummy" copy that exposes my computer to future threats?

    thank you

To determine which version of Microsoft Security Essentials you are running, click About Microsoft Security Essentials on the Help menu. You can find the Help menu on the upper-right corner of the Microsoft Security Essentials Home tab.

    Do you use Malwarebytes ?

thank you...here is the application information from that about page:
    Antimalware Client Version: 4.6.305.0
    Engine Version: 1.1.10904.0
    Antivirus definition: 1.183.2479.0
    Antispyware definition: 1.183.2479.0
it does seem to be the most current, which appears dated 9-september...I'm based in asia time-zone so that might explain the auto-install date of 10-september in my programs list, but I wouldn't know for sure (usually such updates don't show-up as re-installations in this list, right?).
yes, I do use malwarebytes, which is active/running.

There was a MSE program update with the latest Patch Tuesday Updates.
Look in Windows Update History and you should see the update for this.

As david says, any Program changes to Microsoft products officially by microsoft would be found under the installed updates section. That would be one way of checking.

ok, I never noticed that section before, but can see it now.
however, microsoft security updates is not listed there...it only lists as though a new installation on the programs and features front page, which generated my concern as I did not intentionally/not manually [re-]install it at any time since I got the computer a couple years ago...
