This program is blocked by group policy.

Various applications show this message when opened "This program is blocked by group policy, for more information, contact your system administrator."
It's a school laptop which was once part of a domain, not anymore, i am local admim.
The only solution which works is opening the application in Hex editor and changing the size of the file.
I would like a permanent solution so i don't have to do this for every application which receives the message.

    Things i have tried.

    (In regedit)
Deleting "Paths" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\safer\codeidentifiers\0\Paths. I do not have the "safer" folder inside Windows.

    Running the application as admin.

(In Local Security Policy Security options)
User account blablabla prompt for standard users Securty setting = prompt for creditals.

some other stuff also which i don't remember.

Have you tried right clicking and running the program as Administrator?

What version of Windows7 are you running?

Found the solution, seems that the last time i did this i did it incorrectly, or that there was something else required to be done along with it that i had not done before doing the ehow solution the first time.

I'm glad it's not deleted. That helped me solve a problem. Thanks.

I agree with paul1149 - the link to the ehow article just saved me much knashing of teeth cos my Win 7 Pro 32bit machine suddenly, out of the blue, started throwing up the exact same message when trying to install standalone programs (apps for you younger readers! )

I've no idea why, or how, it started, cos I NEVER mess with the GP editor, so I was immensely relieved to discover this solution.

Perhaps heless's post should be made 'sticky' somewhere so that everyone could benefit from it?
