Solved How do I manually uninstall Baidu Antivirus

I'm not really sure whether this is the right forum to place this but I believe this comes under the heading of Maintenance. Now to my question.

Some time ago without being asked, my husband finished up with a Chinese program on his PC and although it doesn't seem to bother him, I don't trust such software. As far as we can make out the program is Baidu Antivirus which occasionally makes itself known when threats are detected. As I've just said I don't trust such software particularly since it was installed without any means of uninstalling. It will therefore have to be uninstalled manually. My question is HOW?

I've searched the internet for info on how to do this but I'm still somewhat unsure. I've come across two uninstaller programs which are supposed to be specifically for uninstalling Baidu but its a case of persuading my husband that it really should come off. After all it was put on there without his knowledge or permission and it makes me feel more than a little twitchy about it all. Particularly since we are on a home network.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial on manually uninstalling the program bareing in mind there is no uninstall facility available? In the meantime I shall continue my search. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your replies but I'm afraid not a lot of help. Both the youtube video and the website assume you have an uninstall feature available. If you look at my message you will see we have no such feature at all. Therefore it will all have to be removed manually. So currently I'm no further forward at all. I suppose more searching on the web.

Just a couple of random thoughts for whatever it's worth.

Have you checked to see if you have a system restore point that pre-dates the Baidu? If yes you could try to restore your computer to that earlier date.

You could try downloading/installing Baidu again. It might possibly repair the existing installation and provide you with the necessary uninstall option. (Even if it doesn't I don't think you'd be any worse off than you already are.)

Another possibility is to edit the registry and uninstall all references to Baidu. No guarantees, but this method has worked for me in the past with programs that didn't have an uninstaller.

Try using the free version of Revo Uninstaller.
Revo Uninstaller Pro - Buy Now
Just scroll down and find the free version/ download it/ then run as administrator/and if Baidu is listed then uninstall it.

My bad, I interpreted this comment incorrectly.

Are you trying to remove the 2013, or the 2014 version?
Also, are you getting errors when trying to uninstall?

Have you tried the following...
AppRemover (which scans for and removes multiple anti-malware products):
Uninstall McAfee, Symantec & other antivirus software with AppRemover


Demos are available for AppRemover, and Revo Uninstaller.

If nothing works, post back.

I think what tracxeyw means by this comment is that the Baidu AV shows no uninstall option in Control Panel. At first read I thought she was referring to a file...

The link you and I provided is predicated upon the use of a Control Panel entry to uninstall, which brings about displaying a repair page with the option to uninstall.

Are we all confused now? Well, let's add to the confusion. Is the Baidu malware, or the Baidu software installed on the computer? Whatever it is appears to have installed on its own...very strange for an AV software!

On second thought, if you will, please run the following, and we will get a better idea of what to do with the Baidu...

Please use the: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download

Select the version that applies to your system: 64-bit
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the downloaded file to run it.

When the tool opens, click Yes to the disclaimer.
Next, press the Scan button.

The tool produces a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory from which the tool is run (In this case, the Desktop).

:ar: Please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.

The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log: Addition.txt

I'm up this morning before my husband so took the time to do some poking around on his PC. In fact there IS an uninstall exe but when I tried to run it up popped Avast warning of a threat. Also one thing I have failed to say is that there are two icons in the system tray but right clicking on either brings up menus/dialogues in Chinese.

Knowing this about the installation I want it off his PC but it seems that just may be easier said than done. At present I can't run his PC up into safe mode but rest assured I shall do as soon as I find a way of doing it and I believe there to be several.

Will keep you posted.

I've managed to pry Jim away from his PC for a couple of minutes and run the file you asked me to and the results are attached. When I look at either file in Textpad it says the file contains characters not available in the code page 1252 and replaces them with the question mark. Incidentally, I don't know you'll use to look at the files but Textpad has a facility for marking all instances of your search term. Makes it real easy to find 'em. Anyway I attach the files to this message (I hope!).

Also, thanks for bringing to our attention that an uninstaller file is available.

It looks as if avast! and Baidu have been running at the same time. Not good news, thought.
More than one AV is counterproductive vs. offering more protection. However, if you did not knowingly install Baidu, it is understandable why there are 2 AVs.

The FRST report shows Baidu as an AV, and it also shows some entries installed by it that are considered potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).

Since you found the Baidu uninstaller, that is the best way to go. However, avast! is throwing in a wrench into the gears of progress for us, so, let's temporarily disable avast!:

You may want to turn it off until you restart the computer, and, hopefully, that will be after the Baidu uninstaller kicks in.

If the uninstaller does not do the job, did you give Revo Uninstaller or AppRemover a whirl?

Would rather have the uninstaller.exe or the two removal programs get rid of Baidu for you. After that we will take additional actions to clear any leftovers.

I've now done as you suggested although I didn't have to disable Avast I just quit the dialogue it put up and carried on trying to uninstall baidu. In the end I found not just one uninstall file but four. I invoked all four and they uninstalled the vast majority of the files I wanted rid of, obviously rebooting between times. I then printed out the FRST.txt file and checked all paths referenced in the file making sure those leftovers were gone. I did a search on Drive C: for Baidu and deleted any leftovers found. Now as far as I am aware all files for Baidu AV have been removed.

Now I'm left with the registry to sort out. I'm perfectly familiar with the vagaries of the registry and how vital it is. In fact over the years I've been through the registry deleting references to other programs and had no problems doing so. The only sections that bother me are the activeX sections. Anyway, what would you suggest as the best way to tackle the registry other than what I've already suggested.

Go back to my first you tube post where he shows you how to delete in the registry.
How long have you been using Baidu AV?
If not too long you might consider doing a restore back to before you installed Baidu AV.
However if it has been there a long time then take a look see in the registry. I said look see and let us know what you see and post back to us before you delete anything.

Download the program and save it to the Desktop.

Since you strike me as the kind of person that likes to check information and make sure you are on target, at the initial screen, use the option to: Analyze

When presented with entries, right-click the entries area, and select: Save to text file
Save the log file to the Desktop, and get ready to put on your reading glasses (if you use any, this ol' dog does)

:ar: Please post the log in your reply, and do not take action to Run Cleaner, yet.


Next, on the left of the program console, click the Registry option.
Press: Scan for issues

Again, when presented with entries, right-click the entries area, and select: Save to text file
Also save the log file to the Desktop, and name it CCleaner Registry.

Let's see what CCleaner shows, and we will take it from there...

Thanks for your help. The latest version of CCleaner does not have the option to Delete Junk Files. However, I did have an issue on my own PC so I checked out the way to do it there. Incidentally I haven't been around for a little while since my husband has kindly (I don't think) given me his cold. At present I'm feeling up to doing a bit more so am taking the opportunity this morning.

As far as Jim's PC is concerned I have used the CCleaner registry feature but before I read your latest posting. I HAVE deleted some 29 references to Baidu that CCleaner found although I have reason to believe there may well be some 70 other references left in the registry. However, I haven't so far used the Cleaner section of CCleaner so I have managed to get a log file to post.

The report appears to be the results of Analyze in the Cleaner Option.
If you wish, to get rid of the entries, press: Run Cleaner

As to whether you will succeed in getting rid of every Baidu entry in the computer is debatable. A clean install should do the trick, but, whether you want to go there....?

You can consider using the Revo Uninstaller as suggested by The Howling Wolves, and see if it finds any Baidu, and, also use AppRemover for the same check.


The following programs may be of help in removing the 'junk' stuff...

AdwCleaner Download (by Xplode)
Save to the Desktop.

Right-click on AdwCleaner.exe and select: Run as Administrator

At the main window, press the [Scan] button.
The Scan function does not delete anything. It just lists elements.

Once AdwCleaner completes its scan, it shows a list of entries.
You can uncheck any item(s) you do not want to remove from this list.

Next, click the [Clean] button.

A small window appears to inform that all programs will close. Press: OK

AdwCleaner proceeds to delete all checked elements.

If a reboot is needed, a small window appears notifying of such. Please click: OK

:ar: Please provide the AdwCleaner logfile in your reply.


Let the following program take a shot at removing adware, toolbars, and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) bundled with other programs.

Junkware Removal Tool Download (by thisisu)
Save to the Desktop.

Make sure you temporarily disable your AntiVirus, Firewall, and any other AntiSpyware applications. These programs may interfere with the running of JRT.

Next, right-click JRT.exe and select: Run as Administrator

The tool opens and starts scanning the system. Please be patient as this can take a while...
When done, Junkware Removal Tool removes all traces of the aforementioned programs including their files, Registry keys, and folders.

A report, JRT.txt, is saved on the Desktop.

I ran JRT on Jim's PC but the log files are just not worth putting up as only two registry entries were deleted and these were related to Google Chrome and certainly nothing to do with Baidu.

I think as things stand at present we ought to call this thread solved and as such I've marked it as solved. I appreciate all the help people have given whilst the thread has been open but since there is nothing more anyone can do other than go through the registry removing all references to Baidu I think we'll leave it as is. I do appreciate the help I've received but we'll now call it solved.
