[QUOTE=armyslowrdr;354660]Yes I went ahead and updated to 9.0 free. But AVG IS sneaky. They were sneaky first time I installed 8.5--a really convoluted way to get the free version---then it was enticing a person with free offers from partners if one got the 8.5 premium version as I recall. One had to go through a number of clicks and choices before the free version prsented.

That is why I stopped running AVG; their "sneaky" way of installing the free version. I have MSE now and haven't had any problems.

I beg to differ. The website clearly does state that 8.5 expires the end of November.

And AVG while a reputable program does sneakily try to get one to obtain the paid product.

The notification was legit all right although misleading. I'm just glad I visited the website to see that 9.0 has a free version as well.

So there will be NO MORE FREE UPDATES for version 8.5

    hi !

"a window from AVGfree was open saying I must upgrade by 1 Dec, that there would be no more free updates. "

just checked free.avg.com, there is NO such info.
i was refering to the title of this thread "AVGfree (soon 2 b no more)"
and to your post saying "goodby AVG-free !").

there is NO info saying that on their website.
what they say is: "no more upgrades for 8.5, get 9.0 instead"
and that´s not new, it was the same with 7.5 & 8...

I don't believe that AVG is "tricky" or "sneaky"
They are in business to provide a service and FREE does not pay the rent.
They are hoping that you will go for the Pay version and I don't blame them
for trying to get you to upgrade.

FYI: I use Vipre AV from sunbelt and they have a "whole House" version for
all your home computers for something like $49 for a year.
I don't sell anything so I can recommend them.
