Windows 7: Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.0.5 Install Error

What I don't understand is why you guys are working with an outdated version of SEP, because v12.xx has been out many months and has some differences that may well have been brought about because of Windows7 compatability.

Under the OS beta I found SEP v11.xx suffered, shall we say, a few conflicts with Windows Firewall - anyway, it was unsatisfactory - so the logical answer was to do an update, and I get my copy through my workplace who're always on the latest SEP builds as they're updated... absolutely no problems to report with the current version here

Well first of all it's an enterprise product, soooooooooooooooo, have to use what is issued by the firm. Second, the issues discribed are not firewall realted but a failure in the version of SEP specific. It won't work around a previously installed VC. Heck you even have to dl a special app to unload their own product. In any event it works great on my system, duelcore AMT, 4 gig, 64 bit, OS 7. All I need it to do is work. Now it does.

Glad to hear it now works, but why is your firm not using the latest build? I'm sure upgrades are absolutely free of charge within the licensing period paid for...

Same Issue, But Fix Doesn't Work

I am trying to install a managed copy of SEP 11 on a clean install of Windows 7 Pro.

I get the reboot pending error and I have verified that all of the registry keys mentioned in this post have been deleted and I still get the same message. The registry keys do appear after each failed install of SEP... deleting them again does nothing.

I have also disabled Windows Firewall and UAC. I have tried installing LiveUpdate first (a suggestion from another forum, I think) and that will fail on install with Error 45 (an internal error occurred). LiveUpdate install rolls back but leaves all its files in place -- subsequent attempts to install LiveUpdate will terminate with "most recent version is already installed" message until I delete the left behind folder. LiveUpdate does not get added to the registry and cannot be uninstalled via Control Panel.

There isn't a single message relating to either install in Event Viewer and I can't find any install logs.

I realized at one point that we had v11.0.4 so I upgraded to v11.0.5, recreated the client install packages, and tried again with the same results as above. I have tried silent and interactive installs, all with the same results.

Not sure what else to try -- any ideas?

QDOS...probably the reason my firm hasn't upgraded to SEP 12.xx is that we are a securities firm. They are loath to make any changes that are not thoroughly vetted.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11
Looks like it works. I checked with Symantec, they say they don't support Beta OSes but if you were going to try to do it, this is how you should, not that they're saying nuthin'... You have to use version 11.0.4. Run (as admin) LUSETUP.EXE to install liveupdate, reboot, and then run SETUP.EXE....

Just thought that I'd share, this version of endpoint protection works great on build 7077-7100, it will not work on older builds.
