    Windows Defender Blocking Email Pictures

So for some reason Windows Defender isn't allowing me to see pictures in emails from people I trust. How do I get Defender to allow these pictures? I'm using Thunderbird.

You can exclude a file extension of folder in the Win Defenders Tools-Options in the control panel. But I'd make sure you have an Antivirus Program actively monitoring as well for adequate protection.

But then will it not scan emails and attachments?

There is a setting for scanning email and attachments, I believe it isn't turned on by default. I had to check it myself. The first screenshot. You can just exclude say jpegs if that's the format the pics are in that they are sending you, it would still scan other attachments. If you had a major Antivirus such as Avast, it has settings to automatically scan emails and attachments. You could also use Spybot SD. I think you have to run Spybot in Vista compatibility mode but it works good.

Ok so I did this, and it's still blocking some .jpgs, why would this be?

Did you include .jpeg too and not just .jpg There's also .jpe and .jfif
Are you sure the pictures it's blocking are in .jpeg format? And are you sure it's Win Defender blocking them and not something else?

I'm allowing .jpg and it's a .jpg file. I don't know what else it could be, that's the only antivirus program I have on here.

I don't really know why it would be still blocking it then, unless it know it contains something malicious. But you said they're from people you trust though. IMO, I wouldn't classify Win Defender as an Antivirus program, maybe more like an Antispyware. To be honest, it's best to have a major antivirus program installed as well, something like Avast Home.

Have you tried temporarily disabling Win Defender just to test if it is blocking the pics?
