    Avast Update

If you use Avast anti-virus do you use the free or the upgrade? I've had it quite a while and got a pop up message to renew as my free subscription was running out. I subscribed again for the free and was prompted to upgrade for $19.95. Then, another pop up for just $9.99 for the Avast Pro.

Would you just keep the free? This is for my Vista machine-not Windows 7.

    Keep the free version.
Use Avast, with a once a week scan from Malwarebytes (free, also)
the Windows Firewall and you will be all set.

You do realize that everyone that is paying for Avast will disagree. There is not one "right" answer, it is all opinion.

Keep the free. I love Avast, been using it for years. The free version has always done me well, and I will probably never upgrade to the paid version, there are enough programs out there that do a good enough job on the side like Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, and SuperAntiSpyware.

Other than my Netgear router I have WinPatrol, Super Antispyware and Spyware Blaster. I should be fine.

Trust me on this. Download the free Malwarebytes and scan once a week. It picks up Malware that the others miss.

I thought I had Malwarebytes but didn't see the icon so I downloaded it again. There was a popup that my trial had expired. Options were to end trial or buy premium. Yet they sent an email thanking me for registering.

They also have a free version. It lasts a life time.

The one I just downloaded shows a red X by license and says buy premium. Also has a red X by Real Time protection?

If you did not pay for that, it will not work after about a month. The free one is for life, does not have real time protection, but you can scan once a week and get rid of any bad stuff.
