Tough EFS question!

This is a question for heavy duty gurus.

The help file states:

"If more than one person uses your computer, or if you use a smart card to encrypt files, you should create a file recovery certificate. For more information, see Create a recovery certificate for encrypted files."

My question is why do you need a file recovery certificate if more than one person uses the computer, and how is this different than backing up the encryption certificate and key?
