Avast opens user interface after each reboot after update

I have avast free antivirus running, which I installed a few weeks ago. So far I've been pretty happy with it, but it did a program update last night, and now it's popping up the user interface each time I restart my PC.

It wasn't doing that until the update. When I would start my PC the tray icon would appear and that's it. Now all of a sudden it insists on opening the user interface with each reboot, which is very annoying. I'm almost ready to uninstall it already if I can't find a way to disable this behavior, because there's no way I want to deal with that happening with each reboot. It should start with the tray icon, not the user interface fully opened. Does anybody know how I can stop that from happening? I'm sure others have faced this as well.

    Hi,
Sounds like a sort of welcome screen or similar which In Avast's case could be a advertisement page most will have an option to not show that on start up/ reboot..
Take a screen shot of it and upload it
    Cheers.

It's the actual Avast user interface panel that opens upon reboot - the same screen that comes up if you right-click on the tray icon and select "Open Avast User Interface". It's the main interface panel with all the options - overview, scan, tools, etc.

It opens with overview selected, and there's an "upgrade now" ad that displays in the bottom of the user interface. I've checked several times in settings and I see no option for disabling the user interface from starting at reboot. Like I said, it never did this before 2 days ago. The update changed this. I rebooted this morning and it came up again. It's a huge window and very annoying - what makes them think people want this when they reboot? So everybody with Avast has to put up with this now? What changed from the other day?

On this laptop I also Avast Antivirus free. Lemmie see if I can find that [un][check] this box option that you're looking for. I'm straw-grasping, under Settings, Tools, what thingies do you have ON in there?

Okay, under Settings>Tools, I have "Software Updater" OFF, Browser Cleanup OFF, Rescue Disk and Home Network Security ON.

Under Settings>Update, I noticed that it's still saying I need to reboot my PC to complete the installation, which was done on 4/21. This makes no sense since I just restarted my PC this morning.

What version of Avast do you have ?

There was a program update on 4/21/2015 for version 2015.10.2.2218

Maybe your Avast is not completing the update for some reason and keeps trying to complete the update on reboot ???
Do you see a continue or finish button (something like that) that you have not clicked on reboot ???

That's what it says under Settings>Update. There's a yellow exclamation point at the top to restart the PC to finish the update. But as I've said I rebooted my PC several times since that update. Never from that "restart computer" button - just from the regular Windows start button. Do I really need to use the Avast link for it to reboot and finish installation? If so that's ridiculous, since it never said anything about the update having an issue.

Did the update get corrupted somehow? The whole reason I got away from Avira was because I was sick of Avira screwing up the software with failed updates and having to re-install. I really hope this isn't a hint at things to come from Avast.

Are you by chance on a business network? Reason for asking: where I work, there are many thingies that work great at home [on my DSL network] but do not work from "behind" the business network. Numerous updates, numerous downloads -- do not happen at work.

I would expect any restart should complete the update process ... but you can try that button to see if it makes a difference.

If that doesn't help you could ask on the Avast forum, maybe someone there would be able to help.
My guess is you will be told to do a "clean uninstall / reinstall".

    I just saw the post from RolandJS - that's a good idea /question !
