Removing What's app virus

My wife received a What's app message on her gmail account that she opened and it seems to be sending out messages to her contact list. We've tried scanning with Avast, but it doesn't seem to get rid of it.

Any suggestions as to how to get rid of this pesky little bug?

Do you have access to either Emsisoft or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SUPERAntispyware? Any one or more of those type of security programs may very well help you.
