How to clean after "1-877-695-4931 Warning! scam"

To be short, for my work related purposes I'm forced to use multiple browsers & proxies..

Today, I was using Maxthon browser with an US private proxy (paid for it).. suddenly I had this nasty virus msg popping up.. stopping me from performing any action .. when I tried to close it won't close & some audio was playing in the background.. After nearly 10 attempts got fed up of it & opened Task manager & closed all maxthon.exe processes manually..

As soon as maxthon.exe final process closed, the msg is lost as well & yeah.. I didn't dare to open the browser again

    * actually I browsed on Private Window feature on maxthon, so I suppose no cookies were stored for my session...

Now the thing is... I'm worried if my system is infected, so I'm running a scan @ the moment on Avira as well as Malware Bytes to be sure..

what else can I do ? advice would be really appreciated :)

I have found this to be a very good program to use.

    goodlad,

A problem we have is the Maxthon browser. Have no clue if the tools I use can be used to remove malware from it.

We may even need to reset Maxthon to its default settings.

However, before doing that, please open the Maxthon menu icon with 3 dots/bars at the top, far right.
    Select: Extensions (at the bottom)

    What extensions are listed there?

    Hi,
FWIW don't attempt to close the message/ warning popup,
It's usually an execute no matter what you click on,
Just kill it in task manager when it happens without touching it at all,
    Cheers.
