Yes, my laptop which I am forced to use right now, has a CD/DVD drive.
That's brilliant. Follow my instructions below to create a Windows 7 Repair Disc - then follow the instructions from my previous post about how to boot from the CD (I will re-type the instructions below)

    Windows 7 Repair Disc:

    1. Go To Control Panel\System and Security\Backup and Restore
    2. On the Left you will see 'Create a system repair disc'
    3. Select this and follow the instructions on-screen

    Repairing your boot:

    1. Go into your BIOS (Either F2 or DEL on start-up)
    2. Find 'Boot Order' or 'Boot' (The names vary)
    3. Change the first boot device to your cd/dvd drive
    4. Insert your Windows 7 disc into the cd/dvd drive
    5. Save changes & exit
    6. The screen will prompt you: 'Press any key to boot from CD' < Follow the prompt
    7. Instead or pressing 'Install' press 'Repair Computer'
    8. Run the start-up repair utility
No problem making the Repair Disc but whenI tried to boot up using F2 a screen from Lenovo Rescue System 3.0 popped up and had options "one key recovery" "Driver and App Installation" and "System Set Up". I did not know what to do at this point and was afraid to proceed. I tried to boot using DEL but it just went into that boot loop. Sorry I am such a problem but I feel we are making headway. Thanks for your patience.

I just clicked on onekey recovery and the choices were Restore from initial backup or Restore from user's backup. It also says "when you restore your system partition, all the data created after the selected restoration is deleted if it wasn't backed up." This really scares me. I think Norton backed it up when they were installing the new security suite but I don't know for sure. My external drive was in a constant back up mode but don't know if it will give me that choice.

Sorry, for Lenovo's its F1 - my bad! Keep repeatedly pressing F1 after hitting the power button until you hear a 'beep' from the computer, then you can stop pressing - this should let you into the BIOS.

Please note: Norton would not have backed up your entire computer - In the case that it did, only norton would be able to restore it as its a 3rd party software.

Let me know how it goes.

I was able to get into Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility by using F1 however there was no Boot Order or Boot and no place to change boot device. The following are what is under Startup.

    Primary Boot Sequence
    Automatic Boot Sequence

    Quick Boot Enabled
    Boot Num-Lock Status On
    Keyboard Operation Disabled
    Option Keys Display Disabled
    Startyup Device Menu Prompt Enabled

The headings across the top of this are Main, Devices, Advanced, Power, Security, Startup, and Exit.

I don't know how to proceed but I feel we are making some progress. I had to actually work this morning so couldn't get to this until just now. I really appreciate your help.

This is probably a dumb question but that article refers to a Lenovo boot disc and the one we made was from my HP laptop - will that make a difference?

    No, it won't make a difference. :)

The first thing is says in step 1 is Insert the CD into your Lenovo's CD-ROM drive. Click "Start," then "Shutdown," then "Restart" to reboot the computer.
I can't insert the disc unless the computer is running so when I turn it on and insert the disc, it immediately goes into that loop thing again. What am I doing wrong or misreading on their instructions?

It says after you have done these things, press F1 to get into the BIOS and use right arrow to go to Boot Section. That was my problem before there is NO Boot section when you use F1. I listed what all the headings say and there is no Boot.

Sorry, I sent you the wrong article!

    Instead do this:

    1. Put CD into CD Drive
    2. Restart PC
    3. On Restart press F12 repeatedly until the boot menu shows
    4. Select CD/DVD Drive
    5. Press Enter

This should work, let me know what happens.

No worries! Post back when you've repaired from the CD.
