I got back in thanks to your wonderful guide. Got to command prompt and the following is what happened**
Did MD my backup and then Copy *.* and it said 12 files copied
then Regback and it said
volume in drive x is Boot
Volume S/N D60A-0DC2
Then I did Dir of x:\Windows\System332\config\RegBack and it said
7/13/2009 6:33pm <DIR>
7/13/2009 6:33pm <DIR>
0 file(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 260,313,088 bytes free
The directions under part II of the link say if any are 0 bytes stop and find another way. So I did and now I am reporting back to you for further guidance, please.
**I had done all the other things to get to this point but this is what you need I think. All the rest went as the link said until that last Dir.
I think drive X is the CD drive. How do I get it to read C or D? I only put in drive x after it gave that volume reading of it. It would not take Dir C or Dir D when I put them in.
I went back and looked at the first long listing it went through and it says
979 file(s) 232,637,379
69 Dir(s) 264,847,360 bytes free
then it went back to x:\windows\System32\config and that's when I put in >DIR
Maybe I did something wrong there since I didn't know what I was looking at. Geez this is so humiliating. I will never think I am smart again. Here's a good laugh for y'all - would you believe when any of my friends or family have computer problems they call ME to fix them? Only y'all will know how dumb I really am but I never saw anything like this before. By the way, I'll be 75 next month.
Found some more that might be useful, at the bottom of that big listing of DIR, it says
06/14/2015 1:01 PM 83,128 FNTCACHE.DAT
6/14/2015 1:01 PM 1,036 winpeshl.log
6/14/2015 1:01 PM 40 SetRPDrv.cmd
6/14/2015 1:03 PM 0 dir
and then there was the files and dirs that I quote to you a couple of paragraphs back.
A lot of that stuff in that long listing is dated 7/13/2009 which is probably when Lenovo built it and installed the operating system and then a lot of the stuff is dated 9/7/2010 which is when I bought it and they transferred all my files from my external drive to this new computer. It must have sat in a box for 14 months as I bought it brand new and not refurbished.
