Error Message - 80070645...Trying to Reinstall MSE

The only thing that I can suggest right now is to uninstall BitTorrent. If you don't know why, then you should know....Risks of File-Sharing Technology:
"File-sharing technology is a popular way for users to exchange, or "share," files. However, using this technology makes you susceptible to risks such as infection, attack, or exposure of personal information."

Download CKScanner by askey127 from HERE

Important - Save it to your desktop.

Doubleclick CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify the file saved.
Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

If you've installed any programs that are not normally 'free', uninstall them.

I honestly do not know of any programs that I've installed...(I try to be very cautious about allowing anything to infiltrate my system.)

Just a quick note regarding a post I made previously. Any thoughts about these items?

Quick thoughts...

I just did a search using my Registry Editor and came up with two items that appeared odd...

Here they are:

EAABCF9D27BDB884690DA03A8C290C6D-- 22:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft AntimalwareSetup\RememberedProperties\MARKET

c:\programfiles\microsoft security client

(Note: This folder does appear Windows Explorer even after I unhide hidden folders.)

Could it be that that there are still traces of MSE in the Registry (following the uninstall process) that are interfering with a new install effort?

This is a puzzle and I'm still looking into it.

As LaybackBear mentioned earlier ... Optimizer Pro may have already caused your problem.

Let's clear any bad DNS cache and restore MS's Hosts file:

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.

Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

Thanks for your response and instructions...I ran flush.bat and then tried to re-install MSE - but to no avail. Same error message showed up.

Just a quick question - When I ran CKScanner, did it remove the "BitTorrent" program you alluded to earlier?

CKScanner doesn't remove anything. It just shows me that you have some possibly "iffy" downloaded (unpaid for) programs.

"BitTorrent" is not anything you need, unless you want to deal with unknown Trojans and malware!

Tell me why you asked the question and then tell me what the DNS flushing did.

Based on my read of your comment, I thought you may have noticed that BitTorrent might be on my machine and that the software you suggested was being used to uninstall the file.

Does that make sense?

I'm just trying to do my best understand the situation....

Any new avenues to think might be worthwhile pursuing?

And another dumb question...Would this problem be eliminated if I installed Windows 10?

No, the problem won't be eliminated by installing Windows 10. (unless you do a "wipe and clean" install)

Download DDS from one of these links:
DDS.com
DDS.pif

Disable any script blocking protection
Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
1. DDS.txt
2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
Save both reports to your desktop.

Include the contents of both logs in your next post. DDS just shows me what's running...it doesn't remove anything.
