AVG Cloudcare Antivirus refuses to "Permanantly shred with AVG"

I have several Spreadsheets of confidential info that I want to shred with my AVG, but I always get the following (see image) for all of them but not for other files elsewhere. The file listed in the dialogue box does exist at that place.

Changing: The Disc (an external USB) > Properties > Security > Permissions for authenticated users to "Allow" for all 6 Users makes no difference.

How can I completely remove these file as AVG is supposed to do?

If it can't shred these files with AVG, (they are all Excel files and I cannot find in Excel any setting that would protect them), what can I use?

    Thanks

EDIT: It won't shred several other files that are just text or image files, (on the same USB ext. drive).

Hello Steve mate not a fan of AVG full stop I would be getting rid of it but if you like it then that's your choice.

Now what I might suggest may sound rather crude and I don't know quite if it will work but perhaps you could make a very small partition at the end of the drive move the files to it and then wipe that partition with Partition Wizard MiniTool Partition Wizard | Best partition magic alternative for Windows PC and Server see pics
I hope they come through in the right order and I suspect there are other ways of doing it but this is one I would try in fact after you have done this you could then wipe the entire disk and reallocate

Ok mate let us know how it goes becasuse it might even baulk at moving thre files to the small partition. Biyt if it does then that wipe will erase it especially the slower ones as used by the Dept of Defence
