May have gotten infected on flash drive insertion, would enjoy help.

Hello, I've been letting my brother use my fairly old laptop for a while (doubt it's related), and recently got it back. When I put in my flash drive to transfer some files, there was only a shortcut seemingly redirecting to the drive itself. After clicking and waiting for a while, avast popped up, though it didn't quarantine it or anything. After googling, I'm kinda worried it already infected things in my computer, what should I do to be sure?

On a side-note, maybe a thorough clean up would be nice too; svchost (netsvscs) has been taking a lot of memory on startups and on waking up my computer for a while.

The flash drive getting infected strikes me as very strange since I've more or less only used it on university computers, recently.

    Thanks!

Hard to go wrong with both a quick HitmanPro and MBAM scan, when in any doubt....
