    Folder encryption

    Hi,

I encrypted a folder without encrypting the files inside it and then I booted from a live CD to check if I can open this encrypted folder and to my surprise I could.

Is this a normal behavior? If yes then what is the purpose of encryption if anybody can open my folder?

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.

I am assuming you meant NTFS encryption. Otherwise you will need to specify.

When encrypting the folder you were given the option of encrypting the folder or the folder and all of it's subfolders and files. The latter is the default. If you chose the former then all files added to the folder will be encrypted but existing files will be unaffected.

    Thanks, yes it's NTFS obviously.

Ah, OK I understand. I thought encrypting a folder would stop it to be opened offline but apparently Windows cant do that.
