What is 'System Requirements Lab Detection'?

I noticed today it is installed on my system. I have no idea how it got installed.

Is it dangerous, is it spyware?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi:

    That's not much information...
(It would help to know that file path/location where you found it, etc.)

But a quick internet search turned up this thread from MS forum in 2011:
Is a file from Husdawg, LLC, which was quarantined by my - Microsoft Community
    According to one reply:
It's an activeX file that scans your system to see if you meet the requirements to run the games you choose.
Having said that, you could upload the file to virustotal.com or metascan-online.com for analysis.

    Hope this helps a bit,

    MM

I just found the below text at the Intel website. I just don't know how it got on my system.

    -What is System Requirements Lab*?
The Intel® System Identification Utility is powered by System Requirements Lab*. System Requirements Lab is technology from Husdawg*, LLC. System Requirement Lab* is a web-based service that quickly and automatically tells you the components on your PC. The entire service is run on a website with immediate summary and detailed analysis provided both graphically and textually. Just install product, click a button, and your report for your system is ready.

    Hi:

Did you read the thread at the MS community for which I provided the link in my previous reply?
    Do you game?
Perhaps it may have come bundled with some other software -- perhaps a game.

If you are not sure whether or not it is malicious, or a PUP, or something else, then you may wish to submit the file for analysis to the web-based services I mentioned in my other reply.

Perhaps someone else here with more direct knowledge of the file/service in question will have additional advice.

    Cheers,

I just play Stalker and Battlefield 4, and they don't install that spy product.

System Requirements lab detection is the tool you use for checking if your computer is compatible for a specific game, for example if you searched for "Can my computer run GTA V?", the first result will be the systemrequirementslab website, which will install a program that checks your hardware.

Well, you might have downloaded it from another website that uses that tool.

    Hi, @McSeven:

    @Laith is correct.:)
AFAIK There are only 2 ways (legitimate) software can be installed on a computer.
Either it comes pre-installed from the factory ("OEM").
Or someone with access to the computer at some point installs it or allows it to be installed -- either knowingly or unknowingly.

(PUPs very OFTEN come bundled with other software, sometimes because the user does not "opt out" from the unwanted junk because the user does not remove the check-mark from the tick-boxes during setup wizards. Others are more insidious with their installation.)

If you want to verify the safety of the file that is on your system, then it's easy to upload it to virustotal.com, to be scanned by ~60 anti-virus/anti-malware applications.

If you don't want or use the program, then perhaps you might want to uninstall it from the Windows Control Panel, if there is no uninstall option in the Windows Start Menu.

If you want help checking the system for other PUPs and malware, then it will be necessary to run some scans and tools.

    Cheers,

    MM

Have you installed Intel Driver Update Utility?

    IntelĀ® Driver Update Utility

Intel Driver Update Utility is an ActiveX / Java component that provides access to an update scanner for Intel drivers. The ActiveX component is called System Requirements Lab.
