    Cautionary Avast! tale

This probably isn't the first or 500th mention of this topic, but I had mysterious and intermittent BSOD issues, that disappeared for me after I completely uninstalled Avast! free and its remnants from my computer.

I have no idea why Avast! worked 100% great on my computer for more than five years, including updating the software itself when asked, and then this past fall the occasional blue screens started.

3 BSODs in the last six weeks, most recent was 0x00000101 documents my blue screens, and the discovery of Avast! as the culprit. There's also the link in there to the removal process I used, a three-step process to get everything out.

I'm a pretty smart and safe computing person, so not particularly worried about malware, so I just went with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Just posting this in case someone else with Avast! is having problems, or as a caution to anyone considering the product for their AV needs.

    Hi,
    Yep,
Personally I would use Panda instead of MSE.
I used MSE for years but wouldn't even consider it if I didn't have MBAM premium too

    Why do you say that?

I'm a big "if it ain't broke don't fix it" person, and haven't seen or heard or experienced a reason to change from MSE.

MSE needs a lot of help for malware protection that's all probably more than any other antivirus program free or not
