Windows 7 Home Premium: Please help...Programs Will Not Update

    Might be best off there seems to be a permissions issue system wide :/

    I just tried to do a full system scan with Avast and got the following error message (see attached).

    You can review this it is a lot easier than it used to be
    Clean install
    windows update

    Reformat is done. I'm going to get Avast now. I've made sure to disable Windows Defender, as per your suggestion (unchecked real time protection and administrator boxes, then saved).

    You should update windows first unless you already have ?
    Then make a system image :)

    It's already installing. Windows has updated a couple times already.

    No, sorry. I missed that. I just reformatted with my Win 7 disc.

    I ran Avast and of course it didn't find any threats, but it did alert me to a couple of issues with my wireless router (update password and upgrade the router firmware). It even opened my router settings screen for me. That was pretty cool.
