Actually, under Win7,I'm not sure that is always the case, as I've seen over the years.
Under Win7, WD is only an anti-malware application, not an AV.
So I don't think all of the real AVs necessarily fully disable it.
I've often had to manually disable WD from the control panel AND from the settings @ThrashZone illustrated in order to be sure it's fully disabled.
Having said that, aside from the annoying efforts to updated itself and to run unwanted scans, having it enabled doesn't do much, as it's not much of an anti-malware program.
Under Win8/8.1/10, yes, one might expect that a 3rd-party AV will disable WD when it installs.
But it doesn't hurt to verify that in both the Control Panel and WD itself.
