Microsoft security essentials won't turn on

    Hello,
I have a HP desktop with 64 bit Window 7. I had my old pc refurbished and my computer man put in Microsoft Security Essentials. It has been working great and occasionally it would show yellow in the tool bar but when I would open and check it would turn green.
It turned yellow yesterday morning and I have run scans and update checks 2 times and it still stays yellow and when moused over it says computer at risk.
    What do I do?
I am 71 with a chronic illness that messes with my memory so I need old lady explanations.
    Thank you

    Have you tried reinstalling MSE?

Is there a error code that you can post for us to see.

Microsoft Security Essentials works automatically with Microsoft Update to ensure that your virus and spyware definitions are kept up to date.

Open Microsoft Security Essentials, click the Update tab, and then click Update.
If MSE gives you update error message then follow below instructions to Reset the Microsoft antivirus update engine.

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt, and then select Run as administrator.
    2. In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
      • Cd\
      • Cd program files\microsoft security essentials
      • Mpcmdrun –removedefinitions –all
      • Exit

    3. Restart your PC.
    4. Open Microsoft Security Essentials, click the Update tab, and then click Update.

Oh so simple to think of taking it out and popping back in. Did that and I am seeing green and it is working.
Thank you and forgive me for wasting peoples time!!
