Possible to require 2factor or U2F for desktop login?

I read Secure Logon - Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to log on - Windows 7 Help Forums and thought to myself U2F or some such might be appropriate as an alternative or adjunct.

What kind of options are there security keys hardware or applications are recommended to require more than a password at desktop login?
