McAfee Total Protection Beta Now Windows 7 Compatible

Note that this is the beta software and comprises ONLY Anti-virus and firewall protection.

McAfee Total Protection suite is now available supporting Windows 7 Beta version 7000 only. If you would like to test our software using Windows7 please uninstall your current MTP suite prior to upgrading to or installing Windows7 then reinstall our software. The MTP suite for Windows7 includes MSC, VirusScan and Personal Firewall only. In addition Maintain Computer and Manage Network are also disabled for this initial MTP Beta with Windows7 Beta version 7000
With the recent update released Feb. 13, you will notice that Maintain Computer and Manage Network features are missing. We are currently verifiying our products to support Windows 7 Beta, and have released a condensed version of our MTP suite with this initiative. Maintain Computer and Manage Network are currently under such verification and will be enabled once complete. If you wish to test running Windows7 Beta, you will need to uninstall your current McAfee Beta products, install or upgrade to Windows7 (uprgrade from Vista only), and then reinstall our condensed suite of MSC, Virus Scan and Personal Firewall only. Products will be enabled as we continue Windows7 supportability verifications.

Their forum has some posts about it already. x86 seems to be OK and x64 seems to have one or two issues.

I had to disable Windows Firewall and uninstall Vista Firewall Control first in order to allow the installer to find an internet connection.

That's wonderful except the fact that McAfee is at the bottom of the list for antivirus softwares. I'll be waiting to see what Trend Micro, Grisoft, and other better software companies reveal for 7 as far as retail products. So far the free version of AVG 8.0 has been performing well after the lock up of 7 with the initial scan when first installed.

Which list? I only posted it for information purposes. Despite the fact that I'm a moderator at their forums I was using Avast until just 1 hour ago.
I wasn't trying to advertise it in any way, just stating the facts.

    It's a beta product anyway.

First observations - slows IE8 down.

The "list" is not set in stone but simply a reflection on the complaints and preferences of various programs by various users. But I have to agree with Barman58 that's things seem to be going well for 7 so far with various companies preparing for 7's eventual release.

Creative already has 7 beta drivers available there as well for their products. While that's in a totally different catagory it's a positive trend for 7 being seen. And that's what the consumer is going to be looking for in order to upgrade at some point.

Thank's for that ,and yes, let's hope the rest of the (big boys) follow suit, and dont sit on their laurels, like they did with Vista.

Vista drivers came out while the Vista versions of applications for various things didn't. I hear that one often enough with various addon devices like tuner cards.

The real support that also needs improvement is for the 64bit ball park now that this will be the 3rd version of Windows offering 64bit editions. Trying to find 64bit drivers for older hardwares is another wilderness seen there.

Night Hawk, you still haven't given a link to this "list". All protection software, no matter whose it is, has complaints levelled against it, so I would be interested to know which list this is because the ones I've seen rate it in the top 5.
By the way, I am not a McAfee employee.

That will depend on what list you are looking at for programs as well as who is writing the review. The "list" being referred to however is not a published review but user complaints over the last several years time. Each company will typically see a new better supposedly updated software.
