As long as some people continue to fall into those, they'll continue to exist.

Not that they're picking on you specifically. Nor they care about XP or 7. They in fact don't even know anything about you or your computer (or if you even have a computer). They neither know you're using 7 or XP or Linux, they just try their luck and see if you fall in their trap.

Just ignore them and move on. As long as you don't do what they ask, you're safe.

    Thanks for the info Alejandro85.
Just as I thought. To bad hackers can't do something productive.
    Anyway I didn't bite.

For anyone reading this if someone from M$ calls and says they need to fix anything on your computer (licenses, viruses, bluescreens, etc.) AND you did not call them yourself hang up immediately. I've worked with one of their server support teams and the way it works is that you call them, provide your information, provide enough information for them to get paid (such as credit card information or an account number), and then you get a case number from the operator. Then and only then will a legit Microsoft tech contact you. When the real tech contacts you they will have your case number. Only then are you assured that the call is from one of their techs. If someone calls claiming to be from Microsoft and you never received a case number then hang up. Don't indulge them at all because you will get burned.
