    Blocking Network Ports

At present I use McAfee security. One of the things I like about it is that I can block specific ports under the Ports and System Services sub-menu of the firewall: in particular the ones related to Plug and Play and Remote Access..

However, as the new GUI has messed things up and no longer shows the Ports and System Services sub-menu and the McAfee technical team does not know what is wrong and is investigating, I am thinking of installing another Internet Security/Antivirus package.

The question is: Does anyone know or have any experience of a package that will allow me to block specific ports?

    Thank you for your help

Welcome to the forum. Blocking ports only half works you can close it block it from outside but if something inside opens the port the block doesn't work a lot of malware will open ports

    Blocking Ports

    Samuria,

    Thank you for your assistance.

Could you please tell me how I can "block it from outside'?

Do you mean that I should block it in the router.

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

Router is best option routing ports to a fixed IP that isn't used is the best security

I haven't used it in a while, but check out Comodo Firewall.

You might be better of with Faronics Anti-executable to prevent malware or a sandbox environment offered by something like Shadow Defender. But you have to create several folder exclusions namely the recycle bin. You have to show protected files in folder options to see the recycle bin path under C drive.
