UAC randomly changing

Hi all

Well it's been interesting upgrading from Vista (which had been a nightmare for me) to Win 7 which despite a few flaws has actually made things easier (finally Microsoft get something nearly right) BUT I've got something niggling at me. I've disabled UAC to level 4 (no warnings etc) but sometimes without me doing anything it will turn itself back on again. I only notice it when the PC Optimiser icon gets the little blue and yellow shield back on it again, and when I try to open a couple of documents I made in Vista it says I have no administrative rights. So I yet again go into the group policy thing and disable again to get it back, but why is it doing it??? Anyone???? I have a feeling it's going to be one of those daily things I do from now on just to be able to work on my previous folders etc, but I'd love to know why it's doing it!

I cannot directly address your problem, but I can give a generic tip. Upgrading from one OS to another has a bad reputation for causing problems. When you upgrade, all your problems on the previous OS are carried over to the new one. Not so with a clean install.
If someone else has any ideas, great! If a few days go by and no one else has posted, feel free to take my suggestion.

Cheers for that. TBH upgrading wasn't as much a nightmare for me as when I had to install SP1 on Vista, and so far (fingers crossed, touch wood) it's not been as much trouble as Vista was for me as I spent more time rebooting Vista than I had all through using Windows from the very start of my PC usage in 1986. I can cope with it randomly changing as I know it's just a quick nip into the Policy editor and a reboot, but just wondered why it happened.

Changing account type - changing GUI and desktop customizations, too?
I originally made one account with admin rights on my PC in June. I added a standard account for my dad last week, but the only way I could customize the desktop and theme for him with larger fonts, non-Aero theme, fewer desktop icons, etc was to make his account an admin account also. Otherwise...
