It's time for an Antivirus and VPN and I need some opinions ...

I currently use Avira. I only had one problem in about fifteen years.

I thought about getting Kaspersky, but the US gov has canned it.

I do like Kaspersky but I cannot make up my mind.

I have been viewing videos at Youtube to the point of getting headache.

Anyway I could use some input as to what AVs/VPNs products you all use.
I want the ability to turn off automatic billing.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi McSeven-

What's automatically billing you? I buy a 2 year subscription for Norton, thus I only get a warning that I need to renew my subscription when it's about to expire.

are you looking for free version or paid version of AV ?

    I'll summarize my experience:

    Avira - pretty average
    Avast - resource hungry
Kaspersky - haven't tried directly but have installed it on my dad's PC, its free version. Seems to be running fine with out any issues.
BitDefender - I'm using paid version at the moment - complete pack, I'm happy with the performance, have used free version prior - in free version, you can't run an entire system scan when ever you please so. You ask it to scan, it will start scan on its own sweet time, that's the only drawback of running free version or else I would have stuck with it.

    my old usage:
AVG - haven't tried lately, last time I used it was over 14 years ago, had paid subscription on XP p4 pc.
Symantec - came with the pc around 17 years back, wasn't really a right option, it hardly detected trojans back in the day

Norton - used only for shortwhile but was good

as far as VPN goes, I'm using my Brit friend's vpn - he uses Hidemyass.
one of my other Aussie friend is using ExpressVPN

I recently went through an AV re-evaluation. Main needs were three: free, minimal overall performance impact, decent ranking in independent reviews. I went with AVG Free, have been using it for 4 months, never know its there, am happy.

I've used Bitdefender FREE and it was pretty decent. I have it on my parent's computer. You don't need to pay for a good anti-virus product.

As to VPNs, I use VPN.AC. Read my post here: Access denied | cyberpcforum.com used Cloudflare to restrict access

I've used Avast for ages. I tried Avira for a while and liked it but they said they would cut off support early. I switched back to Avast.
For a VPN I really like Proton VPN. It's free.
