    Why would Farbar freeze

I have a problem with slow boot-up. I tried to scan with FARBAR, but it froze on a file named appid. Any idea what's going on?

Have you tried running msconfig and looking at what's in the Startup tab? Many things there don't need to be running when it finishes booting and needlessly prolong startup.

If you disabled all of them, does it boot quicker?

You might also want to look in Services.

I don't think disabling anything in the startup would make a difference since it's been that way for quite some time.

What am I supposed to look at in Services?

Also, I've seen a lot of Internet chatter about computers not booting because of a missing file startupchecklibrary.dll. I did a search for it on my system and it did not find that file. Is this only a Windows 10 thing or does Windows 7 have it, too?

    Hi

Farbar was written by a BleepingComputers staff member, would suggest you post there, malware section.
Strange place for it to stop, MSE and a few other AV's identify it as malware, its not- did you mark it as an exception?

on another note 3gb for 64bit Ultimate is not really enough.

I asked you to disable the startup items just to check.

From what I can find, you would get an error message during startup if that .dll was missing. Supposedly, that .dll was removed in Win 10. You can always run SFC /Scannow from a command prompt as administrator to check for problem Windows files.

I think we would need to see what's in your services to provide any suggestions. Normally, I would suggest disabling both all Services (after hiding the Microsoft services) and Startup items and rebooting to see if the slowdown was a result of any of these.

I've been banned there. One time I asked for help and they said a scan revealed that I had a pirated copy of Windows. This I can't account for since I bought a refurb from a computer repair shop.

    Hi

lets have a look see if it is non genuine,
run this tool >>COPY/PASTE<< the output, ignore any error message

As i said earlier 3gb is not really enough for what your running, any decent >>Certified<< refurbisher would know this.

note the COA refurbished sticker will likely have been stuck on top of the original

Do you still have the logs of the 2018 Farbar run???
it might still be in the C/FRST/logs folder
