Windows 7: Cannot turn on firewall & no logon servers available for admin

Cannot turn on firewall & no logon servers available for admin

1. Control Panel > turn firewall on/off has all choices displayed in gray and displays message " For your security some settings are managed by your system administrator". My computer was setup by my former employer as part of a domain that I no longer have access to. The domain seems to have a group policy that prevents me from turning the firewall on.

2. When I try to signon using computer name\administrator or computer name\admin with the correct password, the message "no logon servers available" is displayed.
Other information - I can signon to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit using domain\userid and password which is unchanged from when I was still working. My userid includes the administrator group but does not seem to have all the functions available to the admin signon.
I did fund a posting to remove a computer from a domain but it required signing on as admin.
One possible alternative to solving these problems would be to purchase a firewall that can be bundled with my antivirus Bitdefender.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Is this computer a former work computer turned into a personal one?
Was it still attached to a domain? Or is it on a workgroup now?
Can you give more backgroud about this?

Hi Bill,

Ex-company comps can be a pain, espescially if when they prep it incorrectly for personal use.

Definately sounds as tho they only did a partial "downgrade"
have a look at this tutorial - you can then see whats set
User Rights Assignment - Add or Remove Users and Groups

In reality the easiest way would be a clean install, copy your personal data to an external source first

Thank you

Thank you for your response but I have decided to replace my computer with a new one runing Windows 10. My personal information is not safe on my old computer. Someone was able to divert my social security direct deposit to another bank account without my knowledge. Having my firewall turned off combined with browsing using a userid with administrator priviledges probably contributed to this problem. One possible source was a trojan horse virus that Bitdefender removed after the damage was done.
