Firewalls, Anti-Virus, AntiEtc, back in my Windows for Workgroups 3.11 - Windows 85/98/98SE days...
Firewalls, I ran two firewalls at the same time, ZoneAlarm was one, forgot the name of the other. Even used Tiny Personal Firewall during Windows 3.1 - WfW 3.11 days.
Ran three AVs, one, AVG was buried in the earth like the Martian machines in The War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise, the other two, Avast & Avira, tag-teamed like a couple of wrestlers, were active on a weekly rotating basis, each one would be set to be active for their respective week. Those were the good old days :)

You do realise this is almost guaranteed to invoke one of F22 Simpilot's 'no AV' dissertations:D. Seriously though, even I wouldn't advocate more than one AV at a time, and whilst it sounds like you only had one activated at a time, still seems pointless and suboptimal, and obviously running multiple firewalls will also cause conflicts.

My approach is the lightest combo that will still give excellent protection. Like F22simpilot I also use uBlock Origin in medium mode. You have to check advanced user and then create global rules to block 3rd party scripts and frames. It's actually very easy. There are various threads about it on other forums (Malwaretips has a good one). It's worth it though because it stops loads of rubbish running and pages load much faster. If you're interested in it and want any help, let me know.

I was having lots of fun back in my much earlier WfW311 - W85/98/98SE days! Do you realize how far back in time I went to post about my Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 97, 98, 98SE days? Of course, present Windows 7 Professional days are much different! Remember in the Emsisoft/Malwarebytes thread, I gave a quicklist of what I am currently using. I forgot to mention that I am using Windows 7 firewall, enhanced by Windows 7 Firewall Control panel (a 3rd party utility).
