lmt antimalware can't connect to internet to receive updates

Hi all, I've just installed this for the purpose of scanning for an detecting keyloggers as supposedly it's quite good for this with virustotal support, from youtube tests and forum reviews. Due to having a pre-existing 2nd line antimalware program (mbam pro) I probably won't be keeping it but I wanted to give the scan feature a shot, it's a little buggy w/conflicts/slowdowns, unless adding exclusions will make a difference.
Anyway, this message appears, do I need to allow it through the firewall, or is it just a conflict issue because I really can't get it to connect to the internet even though my broadband is working just fine, with or without a vpn. thx.

windows 10 64 bit pro (aware this is seven forums but I use this site for tech support too).
