I'm using VIPRE. Love it so far. Not annoying, and still works like a charm.

Agreed AVG has, IMO always been a resource hog, no matter what system I have used it on. Tried installing AVG on my main PC running W7 build 7000 and encountered an internet signal loss and as was never able to get on the internet until after uninstall of AVG.
Along with two other newer systems,I am currently testing W7 using an old laptop. W7 runs super on older systems.
I am running Comodo Internet Security and it performs flawlessly and is light on resources!!!!
Free Firewall Antivirus Software Download by Comodo
My old laptop specs are as follows:
P-3 mobile 1.2 GHz cpu, 640 MB RAM, 40GB HDD, standard on board VGA graphics
I am using Eset Smart Security 4 Beta try it, its pretty stable
ESET Smart Security Beta Program
I have and really like it too....but the beta expires on March 9th I believe and then you will have to pay.
Comodo is free for life
Hi all,
Just another mention that it would be handy if in our replys & recommendations we mention what version of W7 we have tested the anti-virus software on, ie: 32 bit or 64 bit.
Many people report Avast Home edition (which rocks!) as working on W7 but I have tried it on 64bit W7 and it won't even install. If someone else is using Avast (which is supposed to be (pre-W7) 64bit compatible) on W7 x64 then I will know it is an issue on my system only.
PS: Can someone also advise on this - I know a 32bit O/S won't run a 64bit app but should a 64bit O/S run a 32bit app?
Thanks. Peace.

Thanks for that info johngalt - I guess that confirms Avast will work on W7 x64 - hmmmm, I wonder why it won't install on mine! Any suggestions from any interested parties would be most welcome. I am not sure what build I have installed (on my desktop PC) but I know it is W7 Ultimate 64bit.
Cheers,

Nothing new, but here is just my story. 32bit system.
So far, on the 7000 and then the 7048 build, avast 4.8 (home), Norton 360, Symantec Antivirus Corporation Edition (10.2.276) worked for me.
Avast & Norton 360 work without any problem. (I don't like 360 degree protection though, too many not using functions there. And 15 days? Too short!)
SAV 10.2.276, installation is smooth. But, 7048 reported ".../Symantec Shared/ccApp.exe" is not compatible with windows 7. Since it belongs to "Symantec Endpoint Protection" which is not compatible with windows 7. Right now, I am using the SAV in 7048. Everytime I restart the seven, it will tell me once that ccApp.exe is not compatible and it's a known issue without solution yet. I like Symantec, so I am using it.
Symantec Endpoint Protection is my choice on my xp. I tried to install it on 7000, too. Unpack, install LiveUpdate first, restart the seven, then install setup.exe, everything seems fine. During the running, at one time, it suddently had error on it. "...... Malfunction", the antivirus can't be loaded...
i used NIS 2009 on Build 7000 n it worked like a charm, however on 7022 it doesn't work, still downloading 7048 so ill post back when i download it, however so far KIS 2009 is working out well, low resource, high protection
Edit:
I'm using 32 bit.
