I jumped in on the McAfee Beta. I know, I know, but a company I work for swears by it and I know the product well, and has worked great for us. Figured I would give it a shot. It's free till the end of this year.

    Hi all,

Can anyone suggest how I can determine the build version of W7 I have installed? I think I am on build 7000. I am wondering if this build is the reason why I can't get Avast to run while others can. Is there a way to update 7000 to the latest build? EG: Does windows update work yet for W7? I haven't tried to connect this sytem to the net yet as I don't have any antivirus installed.

Thanks for any & all help.

    Cheers,

    P

Hmmm... also wondering why my avatar doesn't work here?!?!?!

hello purpleyez and welcome you should be able to check either in the lower right corner (or is it left...) and should be able to see a build # either "Build 7000" or "Build 70xx.winmain....(ect)"...
also what you can do is type in start menu winver and pressing enter should show the same thing....
there are currently 7000 7022 (7032 this one im not sure if this was actually leaked) and 7048 that are were released recently so you should see one of these # there....
7022 and beyond are what are called "leaked builds" which means that no support (other than driver updates/Win defender definitions) will be given in Windows Update...
hope that can clear it up for you
as for the avatar issue im guessing either the dimensions are too big or the image is too large (as in size in bytes) or its an unsupported format
i would check with z3 or brink if this is not the issue and see if they can help with this...

    Hi darkassain,

Thanks for the welcome and the info. Yep - I have 7000 (had to use the start menu search as no build appears anywhere on my screen *shrug*)

So if I want to try out 7048 I need to locate a copy and do a fresh install. Glad it's a lot quicker to install than all previous Win systems :)

    Cheers,

    P

Oh and regarding the avatar - I just checked - it's 100x100 and less than 4kB- I beleive that's within the requirements?

yeah i would advise on the clean install
ok if its in your computer and uploading it here wont get it to show then upload it to some picture sharing website such as imageshack or photobucket should resolve the issue...
and like i said if you still have problems drop a visitor message to z3r0l0 or brink and they should help you solve the issue...

Hello, I just un-installed norton 360, too many problems linking my zune and xbox to my pc.

I find that windows 7 firewall and sunbelt VIPRE (anti-virus and malware) works really well so far...no problems for me.....
