Hmmm, weird, we have had more than a couple of folks say otherwise with older builds....

    Interesting indeed.

I ditched my Antivirus on the 8th of November 2006 and stopped using software firewalls back in 2004 and I have never regretted it once since

Still not one infection and If I cared about outbound protection I wouldn't have the computer connected to the Internet

I always win at playing "Spot the Virus"
As long as you have a NAT router, you don't need a software firewall if you practice safe computing. Same goes for the AV.
But you'd be crazy to not run a firewall and be directly connected without a router. So many vulnerabilities out there and all it takes is an open port.

Unless, of course, you're *testing* antimalware software....

Bruce Harrison, lead test for MBAM, does it all the time- a live connection wide open on his system - and he uses a live system, not a Virtual system - hence why MBAM consistently gets detection and removal right.

I am downloading the Beta now and browsing to see what the overall concensus is for AV and FW.

Looks like avast and Kaspersky are the front runners thus far.

I will test with each of them.

One on one of my 32bit systems, and the other on my 64bit system.

    Thanks for sharing folks!!

NOD32 works fine and since itd the proven best.

    I'll stick with it.

Running Anti-Vir(free) here and the only AV I would run. Best detection rates is the reason why.

Avast! works perfectly well here on both x86 and x86-64.
